Making Student Councils Effective
Ethiopian Teachers’ Association in collaboration with Initiative Africa is organizing a nation-wide conference on the theme “Making student councils effective”. Papers focusing on secondary high school students’ councils in Ethiopia covered by their project will be presented at the conference.

Date and Venue
The conference will be held in Addis Ababa from 8 to 9 February 2008 at Christian Relief Development Association Training Center (CRDA), located in Kaliti.
Objectives
The main objectives of the conference are to:
- identify information gaps and knowledge of the functions of students’ councils;
- identify the skills required to effectively manage these councils;
- recommend a high school policy/resolution guiding the establishment and operation of student councils.
Participants
Conference participants include the following members of organizations/institutions:
- Leaders of high school student councils;
- Officials of education departments;
- Directors of high schools;
- Leaders of student councils in institutions of higher learning;
- NGOs/CSOs operating in the area of education;
- Key decision-makers operating in the area of education; and
- Relevant international organizations and agencies.
The organizer of the conference will send an official invitation letter to the invitees. Those who haven’t received an invitation letter are welcome to participate on their own cost.
Transportation
The organizers will provide free transportation service for all participants for the way from downtown to the conference center and vice versa.

Expenses
Organizers will cover, as allotted budget, travel costs and per diem for officially invited participants coming from outside Addis Ababa. Therefore, participants coming from outside Addis Ababa are required to get a letter of support from the organization/institution they will represent at the conference.
The organizers, unfortunately, will not able to cover lunch or travel outside Addis Ababa expenses for self-invited [unofficially invited] participants.
