The Exhibition includes overview of each sub grantee project chievements with pictures,panel discussion the experience of IA partners and invitees will be from Ministry of education, SIDA mangers and opens to public partcipant.

Initiative Africa (IA) in partnership with British Council has launched a project “Improve Environmental Leadership & Active Participation of Young Conservationist through Active Citizens Programme in Amhara, SNNPR & Addis Ababa Secondary Schools”.

The overall purpose of the project ‘Young Conservationists in Schools’ [short version title] is to educate young people about their immediate environment and impart knowledge about the eco-systems, their inter-dependence and their need for survival, and to mobilize youngsters by instilling in them the spirit of scientific inquiry into environmental problems and involving them in the efforts of environmental preservation by the end of 2012.

The project is implemented in selected secondary schools committed to introduce and support extra-curricular environmental education programs into their school activities. The project will also advance the culture of participation in social development; stimulate young conservationist interest in their environment including increasing tree cover and improving access to water.

The specific objectives include;

  1. Develop a Leadership Programme to help provide 60 young people with valuable life skills to promote environmental education and stewardship by giving young children trees or plants to grow within the schools and across their community by the end of 2012.
  2. Enhance the capacity of 120 young pupil to exchange information and experience through Active Citizens Programme and provide them with opportunities to make a difference in their respective regions and beyond by the end of the year 2012.
  3.  To improve levels of interest for young conservationist in their environment including working on community participation, participating in environment education clubs’ activities, and involving in activities such as: increasing tree cover, sustainable food gardens, and water conservation initiatives.

IA in collaboration with its partner Addis Ababa Youth Association has officially launched the program for Addis Ababa, on September 13, 2012. The Addis Ababa Program is going to be implemented in Ayer Tena Secondary School.

IA will also launch its project in Bahir Dar (Amhara Region) and Hawassa (SNNPR) within the next two weeks. The Bahir Dar Project is going to be implemented in Tana Haike and Bahir Dar Secondary Schools, whereas the Hawassa project will be implemented in Tabor Secondary School.

"Support to Quality Education for All Result and Lessons Learnt in Pictures " Photograph Exhibition

Initiative Africa is organizing a one day photograph Exhibition on October 25,2012 at the National Theatre on "Support to Quality Education for all" that focuses on Math and Science education,environmental education and life skill development.

The Exhibition includes overview of each sub grantee project achievements with pictures and panel discussions on the experience of IA partenrs and invitees from the Ministry of education, SIDA, etc. The exhibition is open to the public Everyone .
