Budget advocacy – Making children a priority in   the Region/Woreda Budgets: this project aims to ensure that the Ethiopian children and youngsters, including the most vulnerable and marginalized, enjoy their full economic, social, and cultural rights by creating public pressure through direct citizen pressure aimed at government to allocate the public funds necessary for their provision.

Strengthening the Capacity of Business Support Organizations: this project focuses on three key capacity-building themes: (i) build the capacity for policy making, planning, and managing business training programs; (ii) help associations develop business plan for strategy implementation and operation; (iii) develop a resource mobilization master plan to help associations sustain their operations and achieve set goals and objectives.

Building Conflict Prevention Capacity: The aim of this project is to prevent violent conflict. It contributes to the government and its partners’ efforts to advance social peace, respect for the rule of law, human rights, and social and economic development. By supporting the capacities of CSOs/NGOs involved in conflict prevention, the present proposal is a step forward in promoting citizen based approaches towards achieving sustainable inter-communal reconciliation.

Budget Review for Education and Children Welfare Support: designed to support two initiatives. The first initiative deals with the preparation of a budget analysis series on  Education and Children Welfare with the first issue on how well the Federal Government is addressing the basic needs of  children and recommendations for the fiscal year 2006-2007 and second issue 2008-2009. In so doing, the project is expected to foster dialogue among federal and region government representatives, local government officers, CSOs, members of parliament, and the media in articulating priorities.

Providing Stewardship to Business Associations

1st Edition Addis Film Festival on Human Rights – The issues of Human Rights and Governance are of central concern to all Ethiopians and to all those who wish Ethiopian well. In this regard, IA is launching a project of film festival on this issue with the objectives of increasing the public’s awareness to contribute its share in the promotion and protection of human rights; to build a broad community of filmmakers, librarians, activists, teachers and other citizens who use their artistic skills as instruments of “artistic resistance”; and to create new, powerful alliances between and among local advocacy organizations.

Support to women entrepreneurs-Women have always played an important role in enterprise in Harar, one of the largest regional cities of Ethiopia, but often within ‘invisible’ support roles. Despite considerable social and cultural change in Ethiopia, the proportion of women starting and running their own businesses still lags behind much. This EU funded project aims to help women take control of their lives by providing the specific support and advice they need to start and sustain their own business.

Pre Election Survey 2005 (National Election – Ethiopia)

The 2005 pre election survey is a random sample of persons eligible to vote residing in urban areas and town of major regions of Ethiopia. The survey was carried out from 9th January 2005 to 8th February 2005. The survey intends to determine respondents’ expectations about the outcome of the elections, perceptions, and evaluations of the major parties and candidates, and perceived importance of the election.

 HIV/AIDS


Establishment of a multi-media resource center on HIV/AIDS prevention and best practices to assist CLCs and other community organizations to support and compose messages that prevent HIV infection and reduce the incidence of HIV related illnesses.
