The workshop is one to two week long focusing on local economic development, tailored to the needs of the public servants, business representatives and community organizations devoted to economic development. The workshop allows participants to explore the machinery of the federal and local governments and to contribute towards the creation of a modern, efficient democratic system of public administration.

This course is designed for government and volunteer organizations professionals responsible for program development, including: project coordinators, project managers. program officers, and personnel whose duties include the design, implementation or supervision of HIV/AIDS programs.
What you will learn
Responsibility of local governments to promote the economic development of the communities;
Revisit the roles and responsibilities of the city council, the Federal Council, the judiciary, and Cabinet;
Discuss the role of central agencies and agencies reporting directly to the city council, and the mayor;
Explore the decision-making process, including Cabinet, its Committees, the budgetary cycle and supporting players;
Explore current priorities for Government and for the Public Service;
Review issues relating to the relationship between appointed and elected officials, and
Delimitation of the powers and responsibilities between the central and local governments.
